Duluth, GA –The South Carolina Stingrays (25-8-1-4) scored two goals 12 seconds apart in the third period to defeat the Gwinnett Gladiators (15-13-2-2) 4-3 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center Friday night.
The Gladiators started the scoring early in the first period with a goal from forward Adam Berti at 3:41. Forwards Scott Mifsud and Pat Galivan earned assists on Berti’s eighth tally of the season. Forward Matt Francis put the Gladiators up 2-0 on the power play at 10:12 beating Stingrays goaltender Shane Connelly low glove-side along the right-wing post. Forward Tim Miller picked up a loose puck in the left-wing corner of the Stingrays zone and found Francis standing alone for the tip-in goal. Forward Jason Lawrence received the second assist.
The Stingrays cut the lead in half on the power play at 7:41 of the second period with a goal from forward Spencer Carbery. Carbery deflected a shot from the left point from defenseman Dylan Yeo past Gladiators goaltender David Brown. Forward Michael Dubuc recorded the second assist on Carbery’s seventh goal of the season. The Stingrays made it 2-2 with 32 seconds left in the period on perfect centering pass from Trevor Bruess from the right-wing boards to Jake Hauswirth standing along the left-wing post for the easy marker. Carbery registered the second assist.
Gwinnett reclaimed a one-goal lead at 1:48 of the third period with an unassisted tally from Pat Galivan. The Stingrays responded immediately with two goals only 12 seconds apart. Forward Trent Campbell tied the game 3-3 at 2:36 from Keith Johnson. Yeo gave the Stingrays their first lead just moments later. Hauswirth won the following faceoff to defenseman Grant Farrell who found Yeo breaking into the Gladiators’ zone down the left-wing boards. Yeo fired a shot high blocker-side on Brown at 2:48 to seal the win for the Stingrays. Brown finished the night stopping 24 of 28 Stingrays shots. Connelly earned his second victory in two games as a Stingrays kicking aside 22 of 25 Gladiators chances. Both teams finished the contest 1-for-6 on the power play.
