NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - When you're 5-9 and weigh just 160 pounds, you learn very early to keep your head up when you're on the ice.
It's a lesson that was drilled into Rob Ricci's head nearly every day when he played hockey as a kid.
It's also a lesson that Ricci took to heart and has served the former Merrimack College star well during his rookie campaign with the South Carolina Stingrays.
"I couldn't tell you which coach was the first one to tell me, but I can tell you that all of them told me to keep my head up when I was growing up," Ricci said. "When you're not the biggest guy or the fastest skater, you've got to find an extra edge, and keeping my head up was always one of those fundamental things I did to make myself more valuable on the ice."
