Ford and Ricci Have Historical Nights in 6-2 Win over Cyclones

North Charleston, SC – The South Carolina Stingrays (36-16-5-6) defeated the Cincinnati Cyclones (38-20-4-5) 6-2 in front of 3,917 at North Charleston Coliseum Sunday afternoon. Stingrays rookie Rob Ricci recorded his first professional hat trick and goaltender Todd Ford earned his 100 ECHL victory stopping 20 of 22 Cyclones shots.

The Cyclones kicked off the scoring at 6:31 of the first period as forward Brett Robinson tapped in a loose puck past Stingrays goaltender Todd Ford off a shot from defenseman Brian O’Hanley. The Stingrays responded on the power play off a drive from Ricci at 9:08 from defenseman Nick Klaren and Trevor Bruess.

Stingrays forward Jake Hauswirth made it 2-1 on the power play at 4:50 of the second period from Klaren and defenseman Jay Cascalenda. The Stingrays grabbed a two-goal lead at 17:53 when forward Scott Bartlett snuck a shot under the right arm of Cyclones goaltender Robert Mayer from Klaren and Ford.

Stingrays’ Ricci netted his second goal of the night and 21 of the season at 4:25 of the third period from forward Keith Johnson and rookie Dain Prewitt. Cincinnati cut the Stingrays lead in half at 8:13 with a tally from O’Hanley. Forwards Scott Reynolds and Barret Ehgoetz earned assists. Stingrays defenseman Jay Cascalenda found the twine moments later on the power play at 10:14 from Bruess and Prewitt. The Stingrays completed the game scoring shorthanded at 18:28 with Ricci’s hat-trick marker from forward Trent Campbell and defenseman Grant Farrell. Mayer suffered his eighth loss of the season kicking away 19 of 25 Stingrays chances. The Stingrays finished the night 3-for-8 on the power play while the Cyclones went 0-for-5.
