Stingrays Weekly Update

The Week That Was:

The Stingrays finished the week with a 2-1-0 record with four points out of the possible six this week.

On Thursday, the Stingrays returned to action after a holiday break when they played the Charlotte Checkers in Charlotte . Behind two goals from Brendan Bernakevitch, including the game winner in the second period, the Stingrays outlasted the Checkers 4-3.

The Rays were on the road again on Saturday night as they faced the Columbia Inferno. The Inferno got off to a fast start scoring 4 goals in the first period and holding on to win 5-2.

Sunday night the Stingrays celebrated New Years early with a 7-2 victory over the Pensacola Ice Pilots. Six different players scored in the team effort, and Josh Anderson scored twice, including the game-winning goal in the second. Bernakevitch scored a goal for the third-consecutive game and Cail MacLean scored his 12th goal of the season.

Team Notes

The team is now 16-13-2 for the season for 34 points. They are ranked 4th in the South Division and are nine points behind division-leading Texas who has 43 points.

On the Move:
Jamie Fraser (D) has been called-up to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders. In just his second AHL game, Fraser recorded his first point; a goal in the Sound Tigers 7-3 loss.

Josh Anderson (LW) has been placed on the three-day injured reserve.

Great Games:
Brendan Bernakevitch had five points in the three games last week on four goals and an assist, including consecutive multi-point games on Dec. 28th and Dec. 30th.

Josh Anderson had his first multi-goal game of the season with his efforts against Pensacola on Dec. 31st.

Goalie News:
Daren Machesney remains with the Bears, but had a call-up to the Washington Capitals where he dressed and was on the bench as back-up to Olaf Kolzig.

Davis Parley stopped 85 of the 95 shots on goal over the last three games for a .894 save percentage.

League Leaders:

Nate Kiser is 5th among defensemen in penalty minutes with 98 on the year.

Davis Parley’s is now tied for 1st in wins with 14, is 1st in overtime wins with three, 2nd in minutes (1484) and third in saves (732).

This Thursday, January 4th, is Frozen Gopher Night at the Coliseum. Representatives from the PGA, LPGA and Senior PGA will be in attendance. This Week: The Stingrays play in Pensacola tonight before coming home for three games in four days. They play Pensacola again on Jan. 4th in a game that was originally scheduled for Jan. 9th, Augusta on Jan. 5th, and face a non-division team, the Johnstown Chiefs on Sunday Jan. 7th.

Rays vs. Augusta Lynx

It’s Charleston County Recycling Night at the Coliseum as the Augusta Lynx are back again. The Rays have the slight advantage in the series at 3-2-1 with the Stingrays winning their last meeting 3-1 in Charleston . Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. with coverage on ESPN Radio 910 the Team.

Rays vs. Johnstown Chiefs

For the first time this season the Stingrays are facing a non-division team. As part of the North Division, the Johnstown Chiefs are in fourth place, just one point behind leaders Cincinnati and Reading . The Rays are 5-1-1 all-time against the Chiefs. It’s Kids Day at the game with children 12 and under receiving a $5 upper level ticket. After the game, stick around for Skate with the Rays.
