NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. –
Matt W. Reid and
Matt Stefanishion scored two goals each to lift the South Carolina Stingrays over the Augusta Lynx 7-2 in front of 4,752 at the North Charleston Coliseum.
“That was our most complete effort of the season,” South Carolina assistant coach Jared Bednar said. “We’re really happy with the win. It was basically mistake-free. Everyone played a part in this victory.”
South Carolina (18-14-2, 38 points) opened the scoring just 17 seconds into the game. Reid took a pass from
Cail MacLean and deposited his 11th goal of the season beating goaltender
Nathan Marsters. The secondary assist went to
Nate Kiser.
Stefanishion made it 2-0 for the Stingrays burying his fifth tally of the campaign at 7:30 from
Chris Chaput and
Donny Grover.
Reid went back to work at the 3:46 mark of the second converting a pass from
Evan Schwabe. The secondary helper went to MacLean.
Just 37 seconds later,
Peter Szabo won the face-off to
Donny Grover, who rifled a shot from the right point in for his sixth marker of the season beating Marsters.
Dave McKee took over in net for the Lynx with the Stingrays ahead 4-0.
Augusta (16-18-0, 32 points) solved goaltender
Davis Parley at 6:29 of the second,
Ryan Lang netted his team-leading 16th goal of the campaign from
Ken Scuderi and
Shane Hynes, who was named as the Lynx All-Star Game representative.
Szabo let go with a shot on a 5-on-3 power play with assists going to Grover and Schwabe at 8:43 to make it 5-1 for South Carolina.
In the third,
Cam McCaffrey ripped a shot into the back of the net for his eighth of the season.
Brendan Bernakevitch and
Ryan Bennett garnered helpers.
Mike Erickson closed the gap to four, by depositing his ninth of the year from
Brian Passmore, who was making his return to the Lynx, and
Aaron Slattengren.
Stefanishion rounded out the scoring with 1:19 left in the third, assisted by Szabo and Grover.
South Carolina converted on 1-of-3 power play opportunities, while Augusta went 0-for-5 on the man advantage. Stingrays outshot the Lynx 42-27.
The Stingrays wrap up their three-game homestand at 4 p.m. on Sunday against the Johnstown Chiefs, an original member of the ECHL, at the North Charleston Coliseum. The Carolina Ice Palace presents Sunday Kids Day, which offers a $5 ticket for each kid 12-and-under and postgame Skate with the Rays.
