Greenville, SC – The South Carolina Stingrays (8-4-0-0) fell to the Greenville Road Warriors (5-5-0-0) 5-2 at the Bi-Lo Center Thursday night.
Road Warriors forward Marc-Olivier Vallerand opened the scoring with a power-play tally at 10:51 of the first period beating Stingrays goaltender Daren Machesney (L, 20 saves on 25 shots) under the blocker from the right-wing circle. Forwards Justin Bowers and Jeff Prough added the assists.
Vallerand made it a two-goal lead on the man advantage 1:05 into the second period from Bowers and forward Brendan Connolly. Connolly gave the Road Warriors a 3-0 lead at 5:03 tapping in a pass from Bowers past the right pad of Machesney. Forward Sean Berkstresser recorded the second assist. Defenseman Nick Tabisz put the Stingrays on the board while on the power play at 11:11 firing a shot between the legs of Road Warriors keeper Nic Riopel (W, 19 saves on 21 shots) from the right-wing point. Forwards Sean Dolan and Matt Pope registered assists. Moments later, Stingrays forward David de Kastrozza buried his fourth goal of the season at 13:43 from forward Jerry Pollastone to pull the contest within one.
Connolly potted his second goal of the night at 3:15 of the final frame from forward Justin Wilson to reclaim a two-goal lead for the Road Warriors. Prough completed the game scoring on the power play at 15:49 from defenseman Cullen Eddy and Bowers. The Stingrays ended the night 1-for-7 on the power play while the Road Warriors finished 3-for-6.
