Greenville, SC – The Greenville Road Warriors (6-5-0-0) defeated the South Carolina Stingrays (8-4-0-1) 2-1 in the shootout at the Bi-Lo Center Saturday night.

After a scoreless first period, Stingrays forward Greg Stewart was awarded a penalty shot at 14:49 of the second frame after being hooked from behind. Road Warriors goaltender Nic Riopel (W, 35 saves on 36 shots) kept the Stingrays off the board with a right-pad save. Moments later, Stewart found the twine with a power-play goal at 18:11 firing a shot over the blocker of Riopel through a screen. Stingrays defenseman Nick Tabisz and forward Matt Pope recorded assists on Stewart’s first goal of the season.
With one minute left in regulation, Road Warriors forward Marc-Olivier Vallerand evened the score lifting a backhanded shot over the glove of Stingrays netminder Philipp Grubauer (L, 28 saves on 29 shots) from the bottom of the right-wing circle. Defenseman Wes Cunningham and forward Connor Shields added assists.
Neither side could light the lamp on overtime. In the shootout, Tabisz and forward Pierre-Luc O’Brien provided goals for the Stingrays, but Road Warriors forward Brett Robison netted the game-winning goal in the seventh round. The Stingrays ended the night 1-for-4 on the power play while the Road Warriors finished 0-for-5.
The Stingrays wrap up a three-game series against the Road Warriors on Tuesday, November 15 at 7:35 p.m. at the Bi-Lo Center.
