Gladiators Topple Stingrays 4-2

Duluth, GA – The Gwinnett Gladiators (8-3-2-1) doubled up the South Carolina Stingrays (8-6-0-1) 4-2 in front of 3,806 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center Friday night.

The Gladiators kicked off the scoring on the power play at the 9:00 mark of the opening period with defenseman Wil Colbert’s first goal of the season blasting a shot from the left-wing point past Stingrays goaltender Daren Machesney (L, 16 saves on 20 shots). Forward Justin Milo and defenseman David Strathman earned the assists. Gladiators forward Joey Haddad made it a two-goal lead with a man-advantage marker at 18:29 from forward Tyler Helfrich and defenseman Shane Sims.

The Gladiators made it 3-0 early in the second period with an unassisted goal from forward Tyler Murovich at 1:59. Forward Chris Higgins put the Stingrays on the board with his first goal of the season at 13:05 beating Gladiators netminder Billy Sauer (W, 17 saves on 19 shots) under blocker from between the faceoff circles. Moments later, Stingrays forward Pierre-Luc O’Brien buried a shorthanded goal at 16:48 from forward David de Kastrozza and defenseman Johann Kroll. Gladiators forward Bryan Brutlag completed the game scoring with a power-play goal at 17:54 from forwards Colin Vock and Murovich.

The Stingrays finished the contest 0-for-4 on the power play while the Gladiators went 3-for-6.

The Rays return to the North Charleston Coliseum tomorrow, Saturday, November 19 at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday, November 20 at 4:00 p.m. against the Gladiators. Saturday is Epilepsy Awareness Night!
