North Charleston, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 20 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry and proud ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins, announced today that the team has signed forward Tyler Johnson and agreed to terms with forward Alex MacLeod. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreements were not disclosed.
Johnson, 23, split last season between the Chicago Express of the ECHL and Stavanger Oilers in Norway. In Chicago, the Colquet, Minnesota, native appeared in 20 games netting three goals and three assists for six points. Overseas, he buried eight points (seven goals, one assist) and helped the Oilers capture their league championship adding nine points (four goals, five assists) in 14 playoff games. Prior to turning pro, Johnson spent four seasons at Colorado College recording 82 points (45g, 37a) in 154 games. Last season, the Stingrays traded for Johnson in exchange for forward Anthony Maiani on December 31.
MacLeod, 24, enters his first professional season after attending Michigan Tech the past four years totaling 23 goals and 19 assists for 42 points in 144 games. During the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons, the Nelson, British Columbia, native was named to the WCHA All-Academic Team. Before college, MacLeod skated five seasons of junior hockey with the Trail Smoke Eaters and Penticton Vees of the BCHL and won an AJHL title with the Camrose Kodiaks.
