NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays head coach, Jason Fitzsimmons announced that goalie Davis Parley and right winger Cam McCaffrey have accepted the invitation for training camp for the 2006-2007 season.
Parley, 23, was acquired by the Rays in a trade for Joel Irving in November 2005. The Surrey,
British Columbia native shared time last season between the pipes with Maxime Daigneault, going 14-12-4 in 35 games. Parley, at 6’2” and 183-lbs., recorded a 2.88 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage for the season and was named the RBC Financial Group Saver of the Month in January 2006. Parley, a fourth round draft pick in 2000 by the Florida Panthers, began his professional career in 2003 with the Texas Wildcatters.
“Inviting Davis to camp was important to us during the off-season,” said Fitzsimmons. “He is one of the premiere goalies in the ECHL, and is a good foundation that we can build the team around.”
McCaffrey could return for his third season with the Rays this October. The 6’1”, 201-lb. right winger was originally picked up by the Rays in trade with the Las Vegas Wranglers. Before turning pro, McCaffrey played three seasons with the Kamloops Blazers and the Tri-City Americans of the Western Hockey League. McCaffrey’s professional career has included two stops in the American Hockey League. He played 19 games with the Portland Pirates during the 2004-2005 season and played three games with the Stingray’s AHL affiliate, Hershey Bears, last season. McCaffrey, 23, played 65 games with the Rays last season where he earned 19 points (10g, 9a) and racked up 190 PIMs.
“In my opinion,
Cam is our most improved player last year,” noted Fitzsimmons. “He plays every game like it’s Game 7 of the Finals. His tough character and tremendous work ethic will help lead the team and I expect his growth as a player to continue.”
