NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C.
- The South Carolina Stingrays today released the team’s 2007-08 ECHL regular season schedule.
The Stingrays begin their 15th Year Anniversary season at home this year as they take on the Columbia Inferno on Oct. 20. This marks the third year in a row the Stingrays open up their home schedule against the Inferno.
Following the home opener, the Rays head north to take on the Johnstown Chiefs, Wheeling Nailers, and Elmira Jackals. The Jackals are new to the ECHL this year after previously playing in the United Hockey League. The Stingrays will play a team from the North Division eight times this year, up from just four games last season as Johnstown, Wheeling and the Dayton Bombers travel down to
South Carolina
.
Once again, the Stingrays play 36 of their 72 games at home, including 26 weekend dates. The team has eight Friday games, 12 Saturday games and six Sunday games this year. Division rivals Charlotte Checkers and Augusta Lynx, both of which the Stingrays battled for the last playoff spot, come to town for a combined ten times with both the Checkers and the Lynx playing five games down in Charleston. The Stingrays last regular season home game takes place on March 29 against the Inferno.
The 2007-08 schedule is highlighted by the addition of another South Conference rival, the Mississippi Sea Wolves. The Sea Wolves, have sat out the past two seasons due to Hurricane Katrina, return to the ice. The Stingrays play the Sea Wolves a total of six times this season including two in a row in
Mississippi
on Nov. 27 and Nov. 28.
All home games this season will be played at 7:05 p.m. except Sunday games, which take place at 4 p.m., New Year’s Eve, which commences at 6 p.m., and Faith and Fun Night which will start at 5 p.m. on Feb. 9.

Celebrating its 20th Anniversary as the Premier ‘AA’ Hockey League in 2007-08, the ECHL began in 1988-89 with five teams in three states and has grown to be a coast-to-coast league that will have 25 teams in 17 states and
British Columbia
in 2007-08. The 25 teams includes the Mississippi (Biloxi) Sea Wolves, who return after missing two seasons in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, and the expansion Elmira (N.Y.) Jackals.
The ECHL will play 900 games beginning Oct. 18 and concluding Apr. 5. The conference and division alignments and the format for the 2008 Kelly Cup Playoffs will be determined and approved at a later date by the ECHL Board of Governors.
