Sasha Pokulok, taken 14th overall by the Capitals in 2005, played 16 games for the Stingrays last season.
For the second straight year – and third in four years – the Washington Capitals owned a top-5 pick in the NHL Entry Draft. And for the sixth time in the franchise’s 33–year history, the club selected a defenseman in the top-5, taking the Calgary Hitmen’s Karl Alzner fifth overall at this year’s event held at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, OH.
In total, the Caps drafted 10 players from the Canadian Hockey League, United States Development Program, United States Hockey League, Ontario Provincial Junior “A” League, and US High School ranks.
