The Washington Capitals, NHL affiliate of the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL, announced today their 2007 Rookie Camp roster. Included are six players who spent time with the Stingrays during the 2006-07 season: D Viktor Dovgan, G Daren Machesney, F Travis Morin, D Sasha Pokulok, F Stephen Werner, and F Kyle Wilson.
Dovgan, 20, played 56 games for South Carolina last season, collecting five goals and six assists for 11 points. He also played one game for the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears, registering two penalty minutes. He was originally Washington’s 7th round pick (209th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
Machesney, 20, saw action in 16 contests for the Stingrays in 06-07, posting a 5-8-2 record with one shutout. He also played 10 games for the AHL’s Hershey Bears, registering a 3-3-1 mark. The Capitals’ 5th round choice (143rd overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft dressed as a backup for Washington on two occasions in 2006-07, but did not play. |

Morin, 23, joined the Stingrays following the conclusion of his senior season at Minnesota State University-Mankato. In eight contests for South Carolina, the Capitals’ 9th round selection (263rd overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft potted two goals and one assist.
Pokulok, 21, scored three goals and six assists for nine points in 16 games for the Stingrays in 2006-07. The Capitals’ 1st round pick (14th overall) in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft also played for the AHL’s Hershey Bears, going scoreless in one game.
Werner, 23, suited up for 26 games with the Stingrays in 06-07, collecting 10 goals and seven assists for 17 points. The Chevy Chase, Maryland native also dressed for 26 contests with the AHL’s Hershey Bears, registering six points (3g, 3a) and 26 penalty minutes. Originally, he was the Capitals’ 3rd round choice (83rd overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Wilson, 22, began the 2006-07 season with the AHL’s San Antonio Rampage before joining South Carolina in November. With the Stingrays, the Colgate University Alum posted three goals and two assists in five games. He signed with the Hershey Bears on Dec. 2, and went on to score 54 points (24g, 30a) in 54 contests. The 9th round selection (272nd overall) of the Minnesota Wild in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft signed with the Capitals on July 5.
