North Charleston, SC – Michael Dubuc scored four times as the South Carolina Stingrays won their third game in three days, a 6-3 victory over the Mississippi Sea Wolves at the North Charleston Coliseum.
“He certainly is a special player,” said Head Coach Jared Bednar. “He can do things with the puck that few people in the league can. He has been a welcome addition back to our lineup.”
Michael Dubuc continued his inspired play since returning to the Stingrays from a shoulder injury. He scored the lone goal in the period, swatting in a puck mid-air past Jeremy Duchesne. It was Dubuc’s 13th goal of the year and was assisted by Nate Kiser and Keith Johnson at 10:06, and gave the Rays a 1-0 lead after one period of play.
It would remain a 1-0 game until the final minute of the second period when Scott Romfo’s shot from the point was tipped in by Jeff Corey. The goal, Corey’s seventh, came at 19:19 of the period while the Rays were skating four on four and was assisted by Scott Romfo and Pierre-Luc O’Brien. Just :13 seconds later the Rays struck again on Dubuc’s second goal of the game, his 14th of the year. After bringing the puck into the zone off the face off, Dubuc put a shot on net from the near side circle that snuck in through the short side on Duchesne. The goal came at 19:32 and was assisted by Travis Morin and Brad Farynuk.
Things picked up in the third period as Mississippi’s Jason Tejchma scored his eighth goal of the season to cut the lead to two goals. Dubuc continued to his run as he scored his third of the night, for his second hat-trick of the season. The goal came at 11:15 and was assisted by O’Brien and Romfo on the power play. Mississippi would score back to back goals to cut the lead to one before the final minutes of the game. With their goaltender pulled, however, Maxime Lacroix would extend the lead again, on a shot from inside his blue line with less than a minute to play. Dubuc would find the back of the net for the fourth time, just :24 seconds later to make it 6-3, the eventual final.
The winning goaltender was Ian Vigier who stopped 33 of the 36 shots he faced. The losing goaltender was Duchesne who stopped 31 of the 36 shots he faced. The Rays went 1-7 on the power play while killing off all nine short handed situations they faced.
