Rays Add Curry, Carbery to Roster

North Charleston, SCThe South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/General Manager Jared Bednar announced today that rookie forward Mike Curry has been acquired from the Alaska Aces in exchange for future considerations. In a separate transaction, the Stingrays have signed free agent forward Spencer Carbery. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Curry, 24, recorded a goal and two assists for three points in 12 games for Alaska this season. The 6-foot-3, 200-pound forward spent the last four years at the University of Minnesota-Duluth, collecting 11 goals and 24 assists for 35 points in 115 contests.

Prior to joining the Bulldogs, the Eagle River, Alaska, native played two seasons with the USHL’s Sioux City Musketeers, tallying 59 points (26g, 33a) and 177 penalty minutes in 112 games. Originally, Curry was the Los Angeles Kings’ seventh round choice, 205th overall, in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.


Carbery, 27, registered 13 points (5g, 8a) and 68 penalty minutes in 29 games this season for the Fresno Falcons. Skating in a combined 58 contests last season for Bakersfield, Stockton and Fresno, the Victoria, British Columbia, native totaled five goals and seven assists for 12 points and 155 penalty minutes.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound winger began his pro career with the CHL’s Tulsa Oilers in 2006-07, amassing 44 points (16g, 28a) and 157 penalty minutes to rank fourth and third, respectively, on the club. Carbery spent four years at the collegiate level, playing one season at the University of Alaska-Anchorage before playing three years at St. Norbert College, located in De Pere, WI. In 113 career NCAA games, he produced 56 goals and 47 assists for 103 points.
