Stingrays Hammered by Everblades 7-1

By:

North Charleston, SC – The South Carolina Stingrays fell by their largest total of the year in falling 7-1 to the Florida Everblades at the North Charleston Coliseum tonight.

“It was flat out embarrassing,” said Head Coach Jared Bednar. “Just when it seemed like we had turned a corner, we have a game like this. We just got out worked.”

The game did not start out the way that the Stingrays were hoping for, as they fell down early to the Everblades. At 2:18 of the period, with the ‘Blades on their first power play of the night, Mathieu Roy put a rebound behind Ray’s goalie Jeremy Duchesne to make it a 1-0 game. They would increase their lead later in the period on Danick Bouchard’s 16th goal of the year, at 9:29, making it 2-0 after one period of play.

Things turned from bad to worse in the second period as the Rays gave up five more goals, including three more on the power play, to make it a 7-0 game at the end of two. The period featured three goals by Kevin Baker who is now second in the league with 35 goals. The period also featured two fights, one by Nate Kiser against Patrick Bordeleau, and one by Spencer Carbery against Benn Olson.

The Rays got on the board early in the third period, to make it a 7-1 game. Carbery notched his 9th goal of the year on a two on one with Mike Curry at 1:18. The goal was assisted by Curry and Matt Scherer, but was the only goal that the Rays would score in the game.

The winning goaltender was David Leggio who stopped 23 of the 24 shots he faced. The losing goaltender was Duchesne who stopped 29 of the 36 shots he faced. The Rays went 0-6 on the power play while killing off nine of the 13 short handed situations they faced.
