North Charleston, SC – The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/General Manager Jared Bednar announced today that rookie defenseman David Grimson has signed with the team.In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Grimson, 24, joins the Stingrays after finishing his senior season with SacredHeartUniversity where he was the team captain. The 6’1” 190 pounder led all defensemen in scoring for three straight years with the Pioneers. In 137 NCAA games, he procured 74 points on 16 goals and 58 assists. He also played two seasons with current Stingray forward Pierre-Luc O’Brien.
“It feels great to sign a pro contract,” Grimson said.“To come to a team like South Carolina, who is looking at a long playoff run, is exciting.I'm excited, because from what I've heard I think I'll fit in well here with the systems, and I’ve heard great things about Jared Bednar.”
Prior to college, Grimson played two seasons in the MJHL for the Swan Valley Sampeders, leading all defensemen in scoring both seasons. In 96 games, he garnered 87 points on 33 goals and 54 assists. Grimson is the cousin of former NHL player Stu Grimson.
Grimson is expected to make his professional debut tomorrow night as the Stingrays face the Mississippi Sea Wolves at 7pm.
