Berkeley Electric Cooperative Bright Ideas Spotlight

Every student deserves access to the tools of tomorrow — no matter where they live. Jeremy Osborne's Makers on the Move initiative is bringing a mobile, high-tech fabrication station directly to students at Cross Elementary/Middle School, rolling a professional-grade 3D printer and 3D printing pens right to where learning is happening. From building fine motor skills with 3D pens to prototyping real agricultural solutions, students in this rural community are getting hands-on experience with the same design-thinking tools used by engineers and innovators across the globe. Congratulations to Jeremy Osborne at Cross Elementary/Middle School for being selected as a 2026 Berkeley Electric Bright Ideas Education Grant winner! We are proud to support innovative educators who are making sure location is never a barrier to opportunity.

Great ideas don't always come from a classroom, sometimes they roll right in! Brooke McLoughlin and Jennie Church at Johns Island Elementary are bringing Innovation Stations: STEAM on Wheels to life with mobile maker carts stocked with building materials, construction tools, and everything students need to dream up, build, test, and improve their own creations. From ramps to roller coasters to geometric structures, 2nd–5th graders will tackle real engineering challenges and discover what they're capable of one design at a time. We love seeing educators who bring creativity and innovation to every corner of their school.

Every student learns differently, and Miranda Heider at H.E. Bonner Elementary School Little Foxes is making sure her classroom reflects that reality. By redesigning her space with flexible seating and hands-on learning tools, students are free to move, explore and engage in ways that work best for them. From literacy centers to math activities, learning becomes something students lean into rather than sit through.
