NORTH CHARLESTON, SC – The South Carolina Stingrays hosted their annual Pride Night this past Saturday, January 21st, to celebrate diversity and inclusivity in the Lowcountry.
As part of this significant night, the team auctioned off specialty Pride jerseys throughout the game that combined the Stingrays' traditional jersey with stripes across the torso, arms, and waist, honoring the colors of the LGBTQ+ flag. Through the auction and raffles, the Stingrays donated $8,400 to the Alliance for Full Acceptance which works to achieve, nurture, defend, and ensure equality and acceptance for all.
“Thank you to the entire Stingrays organization for their support of AFFA and our LGBTQ+ community,” said AFFA Board Representative, Jonah Burrell. “Saturday was an amazing experience, and we are blown away by the funds raised for AFFA. What a way to begin the new year and our 25th anniversary.”
In lieu of the white, black, and clear tape normally used by players, the Stingrays wrapped their sticks with pride tape during warmups representing their support for the LBGTQ+ community.
Prior to the contest, the Stingrays hosted a pride party that was open to all allies of inclusivity in the North Club Room with DJ Trevor D. Additionally, fans had the ability to purchase an exclusive package that included a ticket to the game and a limited-edition pride mini stick. Specialty pride-themed pucks and t-shirts were sold throughout the game at The Reef, the Stingrays merchandise store.
The Stingrays return to action tomorrow, January 27th for game two of three this week against the Florida Everblades. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. at Hertz Arena in Estero, FL.
