STINGRAYS FALL TO GHOST PIRATES IN SAVANNAH

SAVANNAH G.A. – The South Carolina Stingrays (4-5-2-0) dropped a 4-2 decision to the Savannah Ghost Pirates (4-6-0-1). South Carolina fell into a 3-0 hole in the first period, and their third-period comeback was too little too late. Mitchell Gibson made 22 saves in the loss.

BOX SCORE

Anthony Collins opened the scoring for Savannah 6:27 into the first period when he chipped a backhand towards the net that redirected off Stingrays defenseman Spencer Meier and into the net. The goal was Collins' first tally of the 2023-24 season.

The Ghost Pirates doubled their lead 9:32 into the first period when Vince Marleau tallied his fifth goal of the season. Marleau fired an initial shot off the rush that got blocked, but he found his own rebound and chipped it past Gibson to give the Ghost Pirates a 2-0 advantage.

Savannah made it 3-0 with a buzzer-beater goal from Brent Pederson, who took a pass from Logan Drevitch, charged down the left wing, and fired a wrist shot over the glove of Gibson with less than a second to go in the first period.

The Stingrays had two power plays in the second period, but they failed to cash in.

South Carolina clawed back in the third period with a power play goal by Austin Magera. Magera knocked in the rebound off a Kevin O'Neil shot with 14:57 to go in the third period. The goal was Magera's second power-play tally of the season.

The Stingrays pulled within one when Jack Adams fed a streaking O'Neil with a stretch pass up the right side, and O'Neil wired a wrist shot over the glove of Savannah goaltender Michael Bullion. The goal was O'Neil's team-leading eleventh point of the season.

South Carolina had a chance to tie it up on the power play with 2:07 to go, but former Stingray Ryan Scarfo iced the game with an empty net goal.

The Stingrays' next game is Sunday, November 19, when they take on the Orlando Solar Bears for their Undie Sunday game, presented by Gildan. Fans are encouraged to bring new packaged undergarments to the game and throw them on the ice after the Rays score their first goal. Puck drop is set for 3:05 pm. Purchase tickets for the game by CLICKING HERE.
