NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Washington Capitals and AHL's Hershey Bears, announced today that Assistant Coach Scott Davidson will return for the 2024-25 season. Davidson, 29, will assist Head Coach Jared Nightingale behind the bench.
In 2023-24, Davidson oversaw the Stingrays forwards and penalty kill. Under Davidson's leadership, South Carolina's penalty kill finished sixth in the ECHL at 82%.
Davidson was a forward in his playing career, which included a 33-game stint with the Stingrays in the 2019-20 season. That year, the Stingrays were first in the ECHL before the season was cut short because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Davidson played four seasons of Division I hockey at Quinnipiac University, where he was an assistant captain in his junior and senior years. As a freshman, Davidson helped the Bobcats capture their first ECAC championship. That same season, Quinnipiac reached the national championship game vs North Dakota. Following the conclusion of his collegiate career, Davidson joined the AHL's Charlotte Checkers and was a member of their 2019 Calder Cup championship team.
Davidson started his coaching career at the Maine Nordiques Academy in 2021-22 before coaching at the Elite Hockey Academy in Guilford, Connecticut, in 2022-23. Davidson has helped develop players at the 18U and 16U levels.
The Stingrays 2024-25 season begins on Saturday, October 19, with the Home Opener against the Savannah Ghost Pirates at 6:05 p.m. The full schedule can be viewed here.
