NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Washington Capitals and AHL’s Hershey Bears, announced today that South Carolina Stingrays forward Ryan Hofer who scored a highlight reel goal during the 2024-25 season was selected for the ECHL Goal of the Year for the 2024-25 season.
In the 2nd period against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on Mar. 12, Hofer forced a turnover deep in the attacking zone and dangled between the legs to find the back of the net in a 5-1 win over the Swamp Rabbits.
“I’m super grateful and honored to be chosen for ECHL Goal of the Year,” said Hofer. ”I wasn’t going out there looking for a goal of the year candidate, but being able to go out there and pull off a move like that in a game then be awarded for it is a really cool feeling.”
Hofer, a 6th-round pick by the Washington Capitals in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, finished his second professional season in South Carolina with 26 points (12 goals, 14 assists) across 52 games with the Stingrays. The forward notched five points (three goals, two assists) in the 2025 Kelly Cup Playoffs South Division Semifinals against the Orlando Solar Bears.
In addition to the 52 games with the Stingrays, the Winnipeg, Manitoba native has played 45 games in the AHL for the Hershey Bears. He was also a member of the Hershey Bears team who won the Calder Cup in 2023-24 and will be entering his third year of his entry level contract with the Washington Capitals.
