COMBS SIGNS FOR YEAR TWO WITH THE STINGRAYS

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Washington Capitals and AHL’s Hershey Bears, announced today that the team has signed forward Charlie Combs to an ECHL contract for the upcoming 2025-26 season.

Combs joined the Stingrays before the 2024-25 season and shined in his first year in the Lowcountry. After playing in Europe for three years, the 29 year old quickly emerged as one of the leaders for the Brabham Cup champions.

“Charlie’s a huge part of our team, he does a little bit of everything,” Head Coach David Warsofsky said. “Whether it’s scoring a big goal or throwing a big hit to shift the momentum, he finds a way to impact the game. He’s a leader in the room, and we’re thrilled to have him back in Charleston. Charlie is an important piece to our success this season.”

The forward finished second on the team in 2024-25 in goals with 26 and added 24 assists in 64 games. Combs also posted a +29, third best on Stingrays. The St. Louis, Mo. native netted two goals in the postseason, including the overtime game-winning goal in Game Five of the 2025 Kelly Cup South Division Semifinals against the Orlando Solar Bears.

“I’m really excited for the opportunity to come back to Charleston for this upcoming season,” Combs said. “I loved everything about my experience last year and can’t wait to build off of our success from last season. Our fans make it such an electric environment every night that it’s easy to compete for them night in and night out.”

Before coming to the Stingrays, Combs spent the previous three seasons in Europe, playing in both the EIHL, the top hockey league in the United Kingdom, and Metal Ligaen in Denmark. In two seasons in the EIHL with the Dundee Stars (2021-22) and Glasgow Clan (2023-24), the shifty forward totaled 96 points (46 goals, 50 assists) in 84 games.

Combs joins fellow returners Josh Wilkins, Romain Rodzinski, Connor Moore and Dean Loukus for the 2025-26 season.
