The Stingrays are undefeated after opening weekend for the second straight season, taking down the Jacksonville Icemen, 5-1, in their season opener on the road before heading back to the North Charleston Coliseum for a 4-3 overtime win over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. Friday’s matchup is the third of ten straight South Division matchups to begin the season for South Carolina.

Three Stingrays forwards posted three points over opening weekend, with Alex Gaffney dishing out three assists and Tyler Kopff leading the goal scoring with two, including his overtime winner over Greenville on Saturday.

Savannah has yet to leave home ice this season, earning its first win, 4-3, on Saturday in a shootout over Jacksonville after being shutout 3-0 in its season opener against the Norfolk Admirals. The Ghost Pirates return only five players from last year’s roster.

South Carolina had the edge last season against Savannah, winning six of their 11 matchups, including the last four. Friday’s matchup marks a year to the day these teams squared off for the first time last season, when the Ghost Pirates handed the Stingrays their first loss, 9-4. Friday’s clash will be the first of 10 meetings between the two South Division teams.

South Carolina went 19-14-3 on the road last season, starting its 2026-27 away campaign with a win. Savannah finished 4th in the South Division last season with a 35-33-4 record, qualifying for the Kelly Cup Playoffs before being swept by the Florida Everblades in the first round. The Ghost Pirates posted a 19-14-3 record on home ice last season.
