NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Washington Capitals and AHL’s Hershey Bears, have announced the addition of Hunter Bishop to their Hockey Operations staff as Player Development Coach.
Bishop re-joins the staff after serving as the Stingrays’ Player Development Coach from 2022 to 2024. During his playing career, Bishop played in more than 400 games between the AHL, ECHL, EBEL (ICEHL) and EIHL. He skated in 128 games in the American Hockey League with the Hamilton Bulldogs, Lake Erie Monsters, Rochester Americans and Manchester Monarchs. In 2012-13, Bishop played for the Stingrays, leading South Carolina in points (49) and goals (24).
“I’m very excited to add Hunter Bishop to the staff,” said Stingrays Head Coach Jesse Kallechy. “He comes with an elite playing resume and a history and passion for coaching hockey players. He brings a different element to the staff with his skill-based training, and our players will enjoy working him.”
A native of Fairbanks, AK, Bishop now calls Charleston his home after retiring in 2019. He has run Hunter Bishop Hockey Camps, working with players from youth hockey to the professional level, focusing on individual skill development and helping players reach their potential.
“Charleston has been home since I first played here in 2012, and this organization has been a big part of that story,” said Bishop. “I’m excited to continue with the Stingrays. What I love most about player development is working with each guy on the details of his game and watching those small improvements raise the level of the whole group. There’s no better place to do that than Charleston. The culture here is as good as it gets, and I’m proud to be part of it.”
