The Stingrays took the opening bout of the weekend series, taking down the Solar Bears 4-1 on Friday. Ben Kraws made 25 saves to improve to 5-0 in five starts this season, and four different Stingrays scored.

Special teams continued to be a factor on Friday, as the Stingrays scored on the power play for the sixth time in their first seven games. The power-play goal came on a double minor penalty on Orlando’s Brennan Saulner after an attempted spear. After the spearing attempt, defenseman Jeremie Biakabutuka dropped the gloves with Saulner.

Friday’s matchup was nothing short of physical. The fight was two of the 13 combined infractions between the two teams, with 32 total penalty minutes served. The Solar Bears are averaging 16.0 penalty minutes per game, fifth most in the ECHL.

Orlando’s lone goal on Friday came on special teams as well. Aaron Luchuck scored with the Solar Bears on the power play early in the third period, following what was a 5-on-3 opportunity for Orlando. Luchuk’s goal was his team-leading third of the season and seventh point in six games.

South Carolina has taken both matchups between the clubs this season, outscoring the Solar Bears 9-4. Saturday’s matchup will be the first back-to-back matchup for either side in the 2026-27 season. These two South Division teams last played back-to-back in April 2026 in Orlando, when the Solar Bears took the first matchup 4-0 before the Stingrays got rebounded the next night with a 5-1 win.
