NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays were proud to join the fight against cancer through their support of the annual LOWVELO fundraising event, a cycling event that brings a dedicated group of riders, volunteers, sponsors and staff members together to raise funds for innovative and lifesaving cancer research at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center in Charleston. On Monday, Stingrays players and coaches joined Stingrays principal owner Todd Halloran for a one-hour spin class at the MUSC Wellness Center showing the Stingrays commitment to LOWVELO’s efforts.
This Saturday, November 7, Halloran will cycle 50 miles in the LOWVELO ride through Charleston County. In honor of those conducting leading-edge cancer research, Halloran made a personal donation of $25,000 in recognition of the 25 players who joined him and the coaches to help fund critical research at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center. While the players and coaches will be gearing up for their game against the Orlando Solar Bears on Saturday, the spin class gave the team the opportunity to join Halloran in support of the cause.
“It’s a team effort,” said Halloran. “All these guys are skilled individuals, but they work better as a team. And we were a team today fighting for a bigger cause than hockey. I really appreciated the Stingrays coaches and players coming out, taking time out of their day, getting a little workout in, and helping me support the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center.”
LOWVELO’s fundraising event offers rides of 7, 14, 27, 50 and 80 miles, uniting over a thousand riders who cycle to not only support but also honor those who have been affected by cancer. 100% of every participant-raised dollar from this event goes directly to lifesaving cancer research at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute designated cancer center in South Carolina. The goal is to eradicate cancer by supporting research at Hollings that investigates new treatments and promising approaches to finding cures.
The Stingrays and Halloran are proud to join LOWVELO in their mission in supporting those affected by cancer. On February 27, 2027, the Stingrays will come together to raise awareness and support the fight against cancer on Rays Cancer Awareness Night presented by MUSC Health.
