STINGRAYS ADD JAMES “TRAVIS” WARD AS EQUIPMENT MANAGER

North Charleston, S.C. – The South Carolina Stingrays, proud ECHL affiliate of the Washington Capitals and AHL’s Hershey Bears, have announced the hiring of James “Travis” Ward as the team’s new equipment manager.

Ward, a native of St. George, VA, started his career in 2015 with the Washington Capitals organization as the Equipment Manager for the MedStar Capitals Iceplex. There he assisted the Washington Capitals with Training Camp, Rookie Camp, and managed all equipment for the Washington Little Capitals of the AYHL/NAPHL. In addition, he worked in the Pro Shop that provided for the Little Capitals and recreational leagues.

“We are looking forward to Travis joining our hockey ops staff as our new equipment manager,” said President Rob Concannon. “His experience at the NCAA level and at the Medstar Arena in DC make him a great addition to our organization.”

Most recently, Ward served as the Head Equipment Manager for the University of Alaska Anchorage Men’s Hockey from 2019 – 2021. He handled all equipment duties for the hockey team, including purchasing, repair, and laundry.

“I am honored and excited for the opportunity to join a world class organization like the Stingrays,” said Ward. “I would like to thank Coach Matt Curley and his staff for the great experience I had at Alaska Anchorage, as well as President Rob Concannon, Coach Ryan Blair and his staff for giving me this amazing opportunity.”

Ward graduated from The Blue Ridge School in St. George, VA with Athletic Honors. He grew up playing hockey, football, and lacrosse. In addition to his work as an equipment manager, Ward was a goalie coach with Breakout Lacrosse in Washington, DC.

The Stingrays will open the 2021-22 season on October 23 in North Charleston against the Greenville Swamp Rabbits at 6:05 p.m.
