South Carolina opened its 2026-27 season on Friday in Jacksonville with a 5-1 win over the Icemen, giving Jesse Kallechy his first victory behind the Stingrays bench. The Stingrays scored five unanswered goals after conceding first, as Garin Bjorklund made 21 saves on 22 shots and four Stingrays skaters recorded multi-point nights. South Carolina earned the comeback win trailing after the first period, a feat the team only accomplished four times last season.

Greenville opened its season at home on Friday, earning a 5-1 win over the Atlanta Gladiators. The Swamp Rabbits’ forward line of Brendan Gorman, Hudson Schandor and Neil Shea combined for six points on the night, while goaltender Owen Flores stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced.

The two Palmetto State teams faced off 11 times last season, with the Stingrays besting the Swamp Rabbits in nine of them, including the last seven. Four matchups were decided by just one goal, with one needing overtime. South Carolina set its own Education Day attendance record while hosting Greenville on Feb. 18. The Swamp Rabbits finished 6th in the South Division last season. Saturday’s matchup is the first of nine matchups between these division rivals this season.

South Carolina posted a 26-9-1 record at home last season. This season is just the second time in the past seven seasons that the Stingrays opened their season on the road, and the first time since 2022-23. The last time the Stingrays opened on the road, they came home the following night to defeat the Norfolk Admirals 8-1.
